Technical wood veneer
Real wood veneer, re-composed from a natural core species. It keeps the true grain of the wood but is more consistent in colour and pattern than natural veneer and generally free of knots. More vivid and authentic than melamine, PVC film or HPL, and the most cost-effective real-wood face. 10 finishes shown.

How the panels are built
Three layers: a decorative face, solid slats, and a dense polyester felt that absorbs sound and holds the slats in line.
- Decorative layer
- The face you see: technical wood veneer, natural wood veneer, PVC film, melamine, HPL or leather.
- Slat core
- Eco-friendly MDF as standard, natural (yellow) or black-dyed so the gaps read dark. Solid hardwood, bamboo, PS and WPC are also used.
- Acoustic felt
- High-density 100% polyester fibre (PET), 1350 or 1700 g/m². It absorbs sound, insulates, and is the layer you screw through to fix the panel.
| Layer | Material | Colour | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Decorative layer | Wood veneer, PVC film, melamine, HPL, leather, etc. | Wood, marble, solid colour, metal, cloth, leather, etc. | Wood veneer 0.25, 0.4 or 1 mm; PVC film 0.14 or 0.16 mm |
| MDF slat (core) | MDF, formaldehyde grade E1, E0 or P2. Also solid hardwood, bamboo, PS or WPC | Natural (yellow) or black-dyed MDF | 9, 12 or 15 mm |
| Acoustic felt (backing) | 100% polyester fibre (PET), density 1350 or 1700 g/m² | Black as standard; light grey, dark grey, coffee and others | 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 mm |

Slat layouts (to scale)
Each standard panel is 600 mm wide and 21 mm thick. One long edge has 5 mm of bare felt; on the other, the last slat overhangs so it covers the joint with the next panel. For large walls choose 27/19.15; for smaller rooms 27/13.

Accessories and installation
Two ways to hang a panel. Both use black screws through the felt between slats, where they disappear.
- Black screws
- Fix panels through the felt between slats, where the black head disappears.
- Mounting adhesive
- Panel adhesive for direct fixing to a flat wall.
- Single slats
- Loose slats to finish an exposed end or edge.
- Timber and click timber slats
- Solid slats for trims, returns and click-on finishing pieces.
- PET felt
- Loose felt sheet in matching colours.
- Metal U cover
- Caps an exposed panel end.
- Metal L end cap
- Finishes outside corners and exposed edges.
- WPC L end cap
- A wood-plastic corner cap for edges and corners.
- LED strip light
- Fits in the gaps between slats for back-lit or line-lit details.
Method 1: direct to a flat wall
Tools: Panel adhesive and caulking gun, pencil, spirit level, sharp knife, saw, black screws, tape measure, drill/driver
- Measure the wall height (X) and width (Y) and mark a plumb line for the first panel.
- Cut the panel to height with a saw. Cut along the felt with a knife to narrow it.
- Turn the panel face down.
- Run a zig-zag bead of adhesive along the felt.
- Turn the panel over and press it to the wall.
- Check it’s plumb with a level.
- Screw through the felt between slats: 3 screws across the panel, the first row 5 cm from the bottom and then every 57.5 cm, 15 screws on a 2400 mm panel.
- Hook the next panel’s overhanging slat over the 5 mm felt edge of the last, so the joint disappears, and repeat.
Method 2: on timber battens
Tools: Timber battens, rockwool or acoustic insulation, pencil, spirit level, sharp knife, saw, black screws, tape measure, drill/driver
- Fix horizontal battens (about 40 × 60 mm) to the wall, 52.5 cm apart on a 2400 mm-high wall, packed flat and level.
- Fill the spaces between battens with rockwool or acoustic insulation for better low-frequency absorption.
- Cut and hang the first panel plumb, screwing through the felt into every batten: 15 screws on a 2400 mm panel.
- Interlock each following panel over the felt edge of the last and finish the ends with caps or a single slat.
Where builders use them
Hard floors, big windows and drywall make new buildings echo. A slat wall softens the sound and gives a plain room a finished look in one product.
- Lobbies and amenity rooms
- Party rooms, gyms and co-working spaces in MLI Select and purpose-built rental buildings, where echo is the first thing people notice.
- Suite feature walls
- A headboard wall or a TV wall in show suites and upgrade packages, quoted per unit type with the doors and trim.
- Offices and media rooms
- Boardrooms, sales centres, home theatres and studios, where clearer speech matters.
Before you specify
- They absorb, they don’t isolate. Slat panels reduce echo inside a room. They don’t replace the sound-rated wall and floor assemblies between suites.
- Check flame-spread rules in public spaces. The Ontario Building Code limits the flame-spread rating of wall and ceiling finishes in corridors, exits and some assembly spaces. Ask us for test data before specifying panels there, and confirm with your designer.
- Keep them out of wet zones. Not for showers or exterior walls.
- Let them acclimatize. Store panels flat, indoors, for a couple of days before installing so the MDF settles to the room.
Questions
How big is one panel?
Our standard panel is 2400 × 600 mm (about 7′10″ × 2′) and 21 mm thick. 2700 and 2900 mm lengths cover taller walls without a joint, and 600 × 600 mm squares suit small walls and ceilings.
Do slat panels soundproof a wall?
No. They absorb sound inside the room, which cuts echo and makes speech clearer. They don’t stop sound passing through the wall to the next suite; that is the job of the wall assembly itself. See our guide to how acoustic panels work.
How are they installed?
Glue and screw them straight onto drywall or another flat surface, or onto timber battens if the wall is uneven or you want a deeper air gap. Screws go through the felt in the gaps between slats, where they disappear.
Can they be cut?
Yes. Cut along the felt between slats with a utility knife to narrow a panel, or cut across with a fine-tooth saw to shorten it. Finish open ends with an end cap.
Can they go on a ceiling?
Yes, fixed with screws into the framing or onto battens. Adhesive alone isn’t enough overhead.
Can I use them in a bathroom?
Not in showers or other wet areas. PVC film faces and PS cores handle humidity better than veneer, so ask us if a panel is going near a bathroom or kitchen.
Can I see a sample?
Yes. Ask us for finish samples of the panels you’re considering when you request a quote.
