How to write a door schedule for a multi-unit build

The columns a supplier needs to quote interior doors, trim and hardware correctly, with a worked example for one suite.

By Premier Building Products · Updated October 21, 2026

The short answer

Write one schedule per unit type, with one line per opening. Each line needs the room, size, core, slab or prehung, handing, jamb width, hardware function and casing. Then give the count of each unit type. A supplier can quote the whole building from that without guessing.

The columns

Door schedule columns and what goes in each
ColumnWhat to write
OpeningA number matching the plan, such as D1 to D8
RoomBedroom 1, bath, linen, coat closet
SizeWidth × height × thickness, such as 30″ × 80″ × 1-3/8″
TypeSwing, double, bifold, bypass, barn or pocket
CoreHollow or solid
SupplyPrehung or slab
HandingLeft or right, with the rule you used to read it
Jamb width4-9/16″ for a 2×4 wall with 1/2″ drywall, or your wall thickness
HardwarePassage, privacy or dummy
CasingBoth faces or one face

Put the choices that are the same for every door above the table: door style, hardware finish, casing and baseboard profile. That keeps each line short.

Worked example: a two-bedroom suite

Style: 2-panel moulded. Finish: satin nickel. Casing DC001, baseboard BB001. Unit count: 16.

All prehung doors in this example use a 4-9/16″ jamb and casing on both faces. Handing is read as hinge side seen from the side the door opens toward.

Mistakes that change the price

  • Mirrored suites listed once. A flipped suite flips every hand. List it as its own unit type. See door handing.
  • Accessible suites mixed in. They usually take 36″ doors and levers. Give them their own schedule. See interior door sizes in Ontario.
  • Suite entry doors included. These are usually fire-rated. We don’t supply fire-rated assemblies, so leave them off our schedule.
  • Wall thickness assumed. A 2×6 wall or a double layer of drywall needs a wider jamb. See door jamb width explained.

No schedule yet? Send the floor plans. We take off the doors and trim free and send the schedule back with the quote, so you can check our count against yours.

Have a schedule or just plans?

Send either one. We’ll quote the doors, trim and hardware together, broken out per unit type.
